Shooter-style glass

We have  had a special request for some Dessert Shooters and, as promised, I will try and honor every request.  In doing my research I discovered that this craze is sweeping the Country (and who knows where else).  Not only are these tiny desserts made in shot glasses delicious, they can be very good if you're on a diet. A chocolate dessert shooter can satisfy any sweet tooth for a fraction of calories of a full sized dessert.  Or, you can indulge in 2 or 3 different desserts, and still not feel guilty!

The Shooters are best served in mass so, for the prettiest and most impressive display, prepare at least two per person and mix it up. One of the best things about dessert shooters is that you can get very creative and come up with your own recipes. Unlike appetizer shooters, you rarely drink these, unless they're milk shake shooters. Hmm..

One thing I find absolutely necessary is that the glasses and dessert spoons be 100% disposable. So I am going to give you some ideas about where to get them.  I prefer Party City, because of the pretty shapes and colors, but from here are some other ideas:

Case of 120 - Small 4 ounce Disposable Plastic Pedestal Wine Glasses - Mini Desert Cups

long handled spoons

  • You cant go wrong with this one. Omit the alcohol if you are making it for kids.

•1 Brownie cut into small squares about 1/2 inch each
•4 T chocolate ice cream or mousse
    •1 t caramel sauce
    •Whipped cream
    •Mint leaf for garnish
    •A 2-3 ounce shot glass

Place 3 or 4 brownie pieces in the bottom of the dessert shooter glass.

Add 2 T of ice cream on top - note: you can use any flavor of ice cream you prefer but keep it simple. Vanilla or chocolate work best.

Drizzle with 1/2 t of caramel sauce.

Repeat the brownie and ice cream layers. Add a dab of whipped cream and drizzle with 1 t caramel sauce. Add the mint leaf to the top (sub in a cherry if you prefer). For adults, drizzle with any type of liquor

  • Key Lime Pie Shooter

    •3 large egg yolks
•1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
    •1/2 c. Key LIme Juice
    •1 T melted butter

Add the sweetened condensed milk into a medium sized saucepan. With a whisk, mix in the egg yolks until well blended. Place over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture boils.

Mix in the lime juice and butter until well blended. Pour into a glass bowl and refrigerate for at least an hour or until set up.

Note: if you're a cheater (and, remember, cheaters never prosper but they do save a lot of time), mix up the filling with Jello's Key Lime pudding. It's delicious and, with a squirt of extra lime juice, it will be more tart too.

  • Banana Pudding Shooter

Grab a ripe banana and cut in small slices. Cut each slice in quarters. Grab some vanilla pudding - I prefer the pudding that you mix up yourself on the stove but, for ease, you can use the prepared vanilla pudding. Place a bit of banana in the bottom of a shot glass, add a small amount of pudding, add a layer of crushed vanilla wafers, and repeat. If you're serving adults, top your banana pudding dessert shooter with a splash of dark rum for a savory topping to a delicious dessert. (personally, I'm not that into layering, so I would put the banana pudding in first, then whipped chream (or cool whip), then crumble the vanilla wafters on the top!

Do another layer and top with a bit of fresh whipped cream and a mint leaf for garnish.

White Chocolate Chip and Graham Cracker Truffle

Melt white chocolate chips in the microwave for 30 seconds and stir (white chocolate chips won't melt down in the microwave so appear whole even when melted). Microwave longer if needed to melt. Place some crumbled graham cracker in the bottom of the shot glass. Pour a bit of the melted chips on top and add a dash of cinnamon. Add a bit of ice cream or pudding and repeat the layers. Top with more melted white chocolate and a cinnamon stick for garnish.

Tiramisu Dessert Shooter

Tiramisu lends itself very well to a dessert shooter as it's got few ingredients yet is still a rich, supple dessert just right to get rid of that sweet tooth. This is a dessert shooter for adults only!

Staying on your diet plan doesn't mean you sweet tooth goes away so it might be helpful to know the top five dessert shooters for a dieter. Dessert shooters are mini desserts made in shot glasses and, by their very nature of being small are great desserts for any dieter. You'll be able to have your cake and lose it too (couldn't refuse).

Jello Shot Shooter

No, this dessert doesn't involve a bunch of twenty year olds running naked around your backyard, high on vodka! This jello shot shooter is made by whipping sugar-free jello until its a lighter consistency and layering the jello and a bit of cool whip in a shot class. Top with cool whip and just one cherry for a festive look. Delicious and healthy for any dieter or diet plan.  Of course, if you wanted to add a bit of vodka, there's nothing wrong with that (if you are over 21).  Just add a bit more gelatin.

Sponge Cake and Fruit Dessert Shooter

Sponge cake is usually less caloric than other types of denser cakes so go ahead an indulge. For ease, you can even pick up those spongecake rounds that are usually by the strawberries in your grocer's produce aisle.

Layer small piece of sponge cake and light juice fruit cocktail. Add just a bit of juice to the top of the cake to add some moisture. Adding a bit of whipped cream between the layers will further add flavor. Top with whipped cream and a small cube of fresh fruit.

Low Fat Brownie Delight Dessert Shooter

Bet you didn't know you can make fat free brownies, did you? Sounds weird but use any brownie mix and simply add in a (stick with me here) pureed can of black beans. That's right and, no, I'm not nuts. Black bean brownies have been a treat of Weight Watcher diet followers for years but the secret is out. Bake as you would normal brownies and layer small pieces in a dessert shooter shot glass with fat free vanilla pudding or even fat free ice cream. This delicious dessert shooter will feel indulgent but it isn't and you'll be able to stick to your diet plan with no problem.

Grilled Peaches and Cream Dessert Shooter

Split a peach in two and brush lightly with vegetable oil. Add split side down to a hot grill just until grill marks appear. Cut in small cubes and layer in a dessert shooter glass with reduced calorie vanilla ice cream. If you really want to go all out. add just a dribble of peach schnapps in between the layers. Top with just one fresh mint leaf.

A Berry Berry Good Dessert Shooter

Grab any berries which are in season and have at it. Berries are very good for you as they contain antioxidants and are low in calories and mostly lower in carbs than other fruit. Layer fresh berries and tapioca pudding in a dessert shooter shot glass. Top with a dash of fresh whipped cream and one ripe raspberry. Add a little raspberry liquor (Chambord) right over the top for a delicious treat.

Since you can buy all types of prepackaged cookies, the varieties of dessert shooters made with cookies are only limited by your imagination. Mixed up in small glasses, such as shot glasses, dessert shooters are a delicious way to satisfy a sweet tooth but are not too filling.

Oreo Dessert Shooters

Make an Orea dessert shooter by crunching up three Oreo cookies (double stuffed work really well). Add a small layer of the cookie crumbs to the bottom of a shot glass. Add in a layer of vanilla pudding and a drizzle of chocolate sauce. Make another layer of each ingredient and top your Oreo dessert shooter with a bit of vanilla ice cream and 1/2 of an Oreo cookie. Sprinkly a bit of cookie crumbs on top to give it a nice crunch.

Vanilla Wafer Banana Pudding Dessert Shooter

Vanilla wafers and banana pudding go so well together that they're just perfect in a dessert shooter. Add 1/2 of a vanilla wafer to the bottom of the shot glass and top with a spoonful of banana pudding and two slices of fresh banana. Repeat the layers and top with a bit of butterscotch sauce and a slice of banana as garnish. Yum!

Nutter Butter Peanut Butter Dessert Shooter

This one is for the peanut butter fans among us. Melt one tablespoon peanut butter and add to the bottom of a dessert shooter glass. Add 1/2 of a nutter butter peanut butter cookie on top of the peanut butter and a bit of chocolate ice cream. Repeat the dessert shooter layers and top with a bit more melted peanut butter and one salty shelled peanut as garnish.

Raspberry Delight Dessert Shooter

This delicious concoction is made with raspberry jelly cookies and Chambord (for adults). Slice a raspberry jelly cookie in half and add to the bottom of the shot glass. Add in a layer of fresh whipped cream and drizzle with Chambord. Repeat the layers and top with a mound of the whipped cream and another drizzle of the raspberry liquor. Add one red ripe raspberry to the top as a garnish. A mint leaf can also be added to the top as a pretty addition.

Lemon Coolie Dessert Shooters

This one will make you pucker! Crunch up some lemon coolie cookies (they have powdered sugar on the outside) and add to the bottom of the dessert shooter glass. Add in a drizzle of real lemon if you like it even tarter. Top the layer with a small dollop of lemon ices and repeat the layers. Raspberry goes well in here too so if you're serving adults, drizzle with Chambord. Top the whole dessert shooter with a bit of whipped cream and a lemon drop candy.

Kind regards, and thank you to and/or
